Workshop Introduction 工作坊簡介
This workshop focuses on the question how wetlands may develop as potential sites for natural carbon storage under the challenge of global change? We will recapitulate recent discussions at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) and documents published by the European Commission after consulting its Expert Group working on voluntary certification of carbon removals. Topics to be discussed will be:
- Research related to wetland carbon sink verification.
- Development of ecological monitoring systems.
- Links of wetland carbon sink with ESG.
- Trading platforms for natural carbon sink and carbon credit.
- Relevant international government activities, especially at EU level.
- Conflicts between natural carbon sink policy and biodiversity.
Chair and co-chairs share their experience from academic, economic and government background. Main goal of this workshop is to summarize current activities and develop a common understanding related to differences in international strategies, methods and regulations. The exchange between different levels of responsibilities of participants from various countries could help wetland scientists to work on questions relevant for future discussions in society, economics and governments.
本工作坊所要討論的重點是在全球環境變遷的挑戰下，濕地如何發展成為天然碳儲存的潛在地點？我們將回顧近期聯合國氣候變遷框架公約（COP28）上的討論以及歐盟專家小組會議中所討論的自發性碳清除認證框架協議文件。我們預計討論的主題有：
- 濕地碳匯認證的相關研究。
- 生態監測系統開發。
- 濕地碳匯與 ESG 的關聯性。
- 天然碳匯和碳信用交易平臺。
- 相關國際政府層面的活動，尤其以歐盟層面去探討。
- 自然碳匯政策與生物多樣性之間的衝突。
主席和聯合主席將分享他們在學術、經濟和政府背景方面的經驗。本工作坊的主要目的是就國際策略、方法和法規的差異，總結當前相關的活動，並達成共識。參與本工作坊者來自不同國家，不同級別的職責之間的交流，將幫助濕地科學家針對未來社會、經濟和政府層面進行相關問題的討論。
